Shopify advertising just gained another door.
ChatGPT Ads for Shopify lets eligible merchants connect their Shopify product catalog and commerce-event data directly to OpenAI’s Ads Manager. Instead of building every campaign asset and tracking connection from scratch, the integration pulls commerce data from the store to help create ads, keep product information aligned, and measure what happens after people click.
That matters because ChatGPT Ads works differently from the search ads merchants already know. Ads can appear below ChatGPT responses while users are researching, comparing products, or working through a purchase decision. The ad remains separate from ChatGPT’s answer and can include the advertiser name, image, headline, description, and landing page.

How ChatGPT Ads for Shopify Works
The connection starts with the ChatGPT Ads app for Shopify.
Once installed, the app connects your store’s product catalog to Ads Manager. OpenAI says it also connects commerce-event data, reducing the manual setup normally required to keep campaign data and store activity talking to each other.
From Ads Manager, advertisers can create campaigns, monitor impressions, clicks and spend, manage billing, and review campaign performance. OpenAI’s current platform is still officially in beta, so features and delivery systems can change as the product develops.

Who Can Use ChatGPT Ads for Shopify?
Here is where merchants need to pay attention.
The Shopify integration currently requires:
- An active Shopify store
- An active or eligible ChatGPT Ads Manager account
- Permission to install Shopify apps
- Permission to manage the Ads Manager account
- Business details including website, industry, country, currency and time zone
OpenAI currently says the Shopify integration is available to all Shopify customers in the United States, with availability elsewhere planned as ChatGPT Ads expands.
That does not mean every Shopify merchant worldwide can start running ads today.
Self-service Ads Manager itself is available only in supported countries. Businesses in unsupported countries can create an advertiser account and wait for availability, but creating that account does not unlock advertising access early.
What Happens During Ads Manager Setup?
OpenAI requires business information plus advertiser verification.
You provide your business name, website, logo, industry, country, currency and time zone. Verification is handled through Persona, and OpenAI reviews whether the business and products comply with its advertising policies.
There is another catch worth knowing: self-service onboarding currently supports business advertisers, not individuals advertising personally. Agencies also cannot simply create client accounts themselves; the client must create the account before inviting an agency.
That is refreshingly specific. “Available to advertisers” sounds simple until geography, business verification and product eligibility enter the room.
Is ChatGPT Ads Worth Testing for Shopify?
For the right store, yes — but treat it as a new acquisition channel, not magic traffic.
Products that require comparison, education or explanation are especially interesting because shoppers can encounter an ad while discussing what they actually need.
Google still has the far more mature ecommerce advertising ecosystem, which is why testing matters more than blindly moving budgets.

ChatGPT Ads for Shopify connects your catalog and commerce data with OpenAI Ads Manager, making campaign setup and measurement easier.
For now, access still depends heavily on where your business is based, Ads Manager availability, advertiser verification and Shopify integration availability.
The opportunity is real. So are the restrictions.
